The Kansas City Korean Society was held on January 27 at 3:00 p.m., at the Kansas Missionary Church with more than 150 people attending a regular general meeting of the Korean American Association, a New Year's summer meeting, and a Lunar New Year event to raise funds for the establishment of the Korean American Center. On this day's event, in addition to the inauguration ceremony of Chairman Kim Sung-bae, who has led the Kansas City Korean Society for the past 2 years, the inauguration ceremony of the new 35th Chairman Mun Kyung-hwan was also held.
The Korean Society also reported the 2023 event and financial results report and the 2024 budget and event plan at the regular general meeting on this day. Afterwards, the representative prayer of Pastor Heo Jang, the chairman of the Kansas City Council of Pastors, was held, and Chief Advisor Kim Young-yeol, a former president of the Kansas Korean Society, gave encouragement and congratulations. In particular, a total of 5 people, Mun Kyung-hwan, Han Jung-sun, Lee Chang-soo, Cho Eun-gyeong, and Sam Hong (Youth Representative), who served at the 34th Korean Society, received the U.S. President's Service Award and were awarded on their behalf by Chairman Kim Sung-bae, the 34th president. Subsequently, the new Korean Chairman Mun Kyung-hwan, who was approved by the 35th Annual General Meeting of the Korean American Association, thanked the members for their important tasks and said that he would strive to become a more vibrant and developing Kansas City Korean Society in the future to respond to their support.
Also, in order to respond more effectively and efficiently to rapidly changing times, the 35th Korean Society said that in order to gain a foothold for the prosperity of the Korean community, the executive department under the presidency changed to 1.5 and 2 generations this year and drastically reorganized the Korean Society organization. Lee Ju-hyeon (K-Cultural Event General Manager), who was specially elected as Senior Vice Chairman, urged all members of the community to be interested and actively participate in the fundraising campaign for the construction of the Korean American Hall.
Various performances were held at the Korean Lunar New Year event that followed after the regular general meeting. For the LUNAR YEAR event held at the Nelson Atkins Museum in Missouri, an object play team specially invited from the Chicago Korean Cultural Center performed an exciting and exciting Gugak performance with traditional Korean instruments. Also, the presentation of a taekwondo demonstration team led by Kim Hyun-chul, director of the World Taekwondo Center. There was a wonderful performance by K-POP Group and a choir performance by students from Hangul School. Korean school students wore pretty hanbok and participated in the performance, making this day even brighter. After all the events, more than 150 people participated in the one-day restaurant mochi dumpling soup event to raise funds for the establishment of the Korean Society, and foreigners also shared their fellowship while eating delicious mochi dumpling soup full of sincerity.
